As a project with a broad commitment to the planet and our country Colombia, Explore & Travel, a tourism operator company of Movich Hotels, is proud to launch its experience program: Wingbeats, Birding Experience.
Together with birdwatching experts, we have designed a program that aims to highlight the most sought-after birdwatching destination in the world: Colombia. Thanks to its strategic neotropical location, our country is a megadiverse, with three mountain ranges and two inter-Andean valleys, forming part of the major natural systems of the American continent: Andean, Amazonian, Orinoco, Caribbean, and Pacific basins. Colombia is a migratory destination for about 197 bird species as the migratory routes of the western hemisphere converge in our country. We have more than 1,900 bird species, of which 79 are endemic, 193 are nearly endemic, and 19 are of global interest, with 50% of them found here, making Colombia the country with the most birds in the world.
Our Wingbeats experience program begins with the launch of the northern route of Colombia, where, due to the special geographical features of the high-altitude mountain range rising above the Caribbean Sea, we have one of the places with the highest concentration of bird species in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, at mid-altitudes between 800 and 2,400 meters above sea level.

Our northern route birdwatching package includes accommodation in top-level hotels, all meals, a general route guide, a specialized guide at each destination, all ground transfers, and attention to every detail during the event to make your trip the best possible experience. This first route will start at our Movich Buró 51 hotel in Barranquilla, where we will do birdwatching in the marshes where Colombia’s most important river, the Magdalena, flows into the Caribbean Sea. Then we will move towards the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, where at about 2,800 meters above sea level, we will see unique species and unparalleled sunrises in a unique sanctuary in Colombia. Then we will move north to La Guajira, where the unique desert climate will allow us to see both coastal and dry forest birds, where many will surely be lifers, and we will end with a cultural showcase of the Wayuu community, closing with a flourish five days of unparalleled experience.
